Coaching
We believe that our clients are resourceful and can find their own solutions – but that sometimes it takes a safe, confidential situation to help them clarify their goals, feel supported and challenged and explore new ways of doing things.
Coaching lends itself to helping individuals be more effective: we ask our clients what they want and suggest plan of action. A favoured coaching plan usually comprises a series of 1-1 sessions, initially face to face to establish the chemistry. After this we will continue in an agreed combination of 1-1 sessions, face to face and / or by telephone, and on the job observation.
To provide added value, we encourage everyone we coach to adopt coaching as their leadership style and to use the coaching skills they are experiencing, back at the workplace.
Group coaching is less usual and may be called other names (team building, team development, peer working, etc); we are happy to design and deliver coaching plans for groups, using the same principles and approach we apply to individual coaching.
Our coaching approach focuses on moving issues and situations forwards and encourages solutions to problems and blame; it leads to commitment to action and builds in tracking progress so that ongoing improvements are made. By embedding new habits, the changes achieved through coaching become sustainable
Through clear contracting, we establish ground rules, agree expectations, including desired outcomes, and ensure regular reviews. This explicit contracting is especially effective when an organisation sponsors the coaching, as everyone is clear about confidentiality and outcomes. It also ensures the trust between the coach and individual client, and where there is a sponsor, the client organisation.
